2012 Dominican Kite Surfing National Championships

The 2012 Dominican National Kite Boarding Championships were run a few weeks ago in early March on Cabarete’s Bozo Beach. An amazing long weekend with strong wind every day.

On Saturday, the wind picked up just after noon to 25 knots gusting to over 30 knots. A true Cabarete kiteboarding day. It was a spectacular show for the double eliminations of the Pro and Junior events. Lots of large jumps, technical tricks and big crashes! Quite a sight!

The Pro division was won by Alex Soto, Juniors by Francis Yem, Women by Katie Bowcutt and the Masters was won by Darron Smith.

This really was an awesome event showcasing what Cabarete and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Master of the Ocean Event!

For the tenth year Cabarete will play host to the Master of the Ocean. Held over 5 days from February 23rd to 27th at the local surf beach, Encuentro, the event showcases 4 water sports that attracts so many to this Caribbean paradise. Including surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing and for the first time this year, SUP surfing, the event is for the dedicated watermen or women of the world.

With such great year round conditions for all these sports, many people move to the North Shore of the Dominican Republic to partake is these sports as much as possible. Buying real estate in Cabarete or Sosua is one option to make sure you always have a place to stay, a place to move to or a place to retire to, although I’m not sure how many sports you’ll be doing once you retire! Dominican Republic Jazz Festival

The 2011 Dominican Republic Jazz Festival went off in Sosua and Cabarete the last few days. Stars from around the nation, and world, come to the North Coast of the Dominican Republic each year to jam on stage. A great show with great tunes, as usual, and we look forward to next year’s event!

The 3rd Annual Masters Surf Reunion event ran this past long weekend. A great turn out and a huge early Autumn swell saw the nation’s “Master” surfers compete in amazing conditions.
